DOZENS of eggs were
seized around Inishowen at the weekend from local
youths hatching plans for Halloween high jinks. A
number of minors were caught as they prepared to
ambush unsuspecting drivers and revellers with the
messy missiles in Carndonagh and Buncrana. According
to Gardai, a group of youths were apprehended as
they offloaded a haul of around 60 eggs from a car
in Carndonagh. In a separate incident on Saturday
night, officers on Halloween patrol also confiscated
several trays containing up to 48 eggs each. Garda
Inspector David Kelly said despite some members of
the public being pelted with eggs, Halloween passed
off mostly peacefully around the peninsula. He said
the amount of illegal fireworks seized, was down on
last year. Meanwhile, a number of areas were
patrolled for anti-social behaviour and Gardai say
they were happy with the outcome. "Most people were
out enjoying the night and there was great
co-operation between the public and Gardai," said
Inspector Kelly. "People were generally well behaved
and used taxis and designated drivers to get
around." |
