Aileen named ICRfm chairperson

AUTHOR Aileen McCallan
has been elected the new chairperson of Inishowen
Community Radio. Ms McCallan has taken the helm of
the ICRfm board after long-serving incumbent and
co-founder Jimmy McBride announced his decision to
step down from the post. Ms McCallan celebrated the
publication in March of her memoir about life with
her autistic son Cian, 'A World of Our Own'. Her
election to the new board of ICRfm followed the
recent AGM. Meanwhile, Claire McDermott is the new
vice-chair, Ger Doyle was re-elected company
secretary while Mura McLaughlin and Deirdre Bradley
have been appointed joint treasurers.
The outgoing chairman, Mr McBride who will remain on
the board, said the past 12 months had been "another
successful year filled with some excellent
programmes and documentaries". He said none of the
station's achievements would have been possible
without the "creative and committed" input of
volunteers and staff. |
The meeting heard a
comprehensive account of events at the station over
the past year including the various training courses
delivered, increased membership from voluntary
groups and members of the community, the upgrading
of equipment and expansion of services.
“ICR is totally dependant on the support and
involvement of the local community - without that
active participation we have no right to exist. A
community station has no legitimacy if the community
isn’t actively involved in programme-making.

our efforts to attract
new volunteers," added Mr Bride.
Meanwhile, the auditors report was positive and
described how the station made the best use of the
funding available and had made substantial savings
in its operating costs over the past year. ICR will
be applying to the BCI for an all-Inishowen license
in the near future once the regulator advertises the
licence. The station is appealing to any member of
