Inishowen artists attract judges’
attention
25.03.09
THE WORK of three
aspiring young artists from Inishowen has already
grabbed the attention of the adjudicators in this
year’s Texaco art contest.
While no winners have yet been selected by the
judges in the 55th Texaco Children’s Art contest,
three local artists could well be in the running for
prizes it emerged at the weekend. A painting
entitled ‘Lake of Shadows’ by 16 year-old Kathleen
Farren from Carrowmore in Gleneely, is one of the
paintings to have grabbed the attention of judges.
Kathleen is a student at Carndonagh Community School
and another student at the school - Anita Davenport
from Culdaff - has also caught the eye of the
judges. |

The 14 year old has
already tasted success in the art world this year
when her drawing was short-listed for the ‘doodle
for google’ competition.
Now her entry entitled ‘Dancing Lesson’ which
depicts an accordian, music
sheet and dancing shoes has also grabbed the
attention of judges in the Texaco competition.
Meanwhile, a third Inishowen student has also
attracted the attention of the judges with her entry
entitled ‘Eskimo Mother and Child.’
That painting was submitted by Alice Gallanagh from
Buncrana who is a pupil at Scoil Mhuire in Buncrana.
This year, over 34,000 entries were received, some
834 of which came from Co. Donegal. Winners will be
announced in early-April followed by the
prize-giving ceremony which takes place in May.
