Higgins 'honoured' with EU role 17.07.09

NORTH and West MEP Jim Higgins has been elected one of the five Quaestors of the European Parliament.
The Fine Gael MEP was elected to the College of Quaestors by an absolute majority on the first count.
The European Parliament elects the Quaestors after the election of the President and fourteen Vice-Presidents.
They are responsible for administrative and financial matters that directly affect members including making general services and equipment available.
They can present proposals to modify or rewrite texts on all rules adopted by the Bureau of the European Parliament. The Quaestors meet once a month.
Mr Higgins said he was delighted with the position.
"I am honoured to be elected as one of the five Quaestors of the European Parliament and to have been elected on the first count. I look forward to ensuring that the operations of the

Mr Higgins is the only Irish MEP who will serve on the Bureau of the European Parliament, which is composed of the President, fourteen Vice Presidents and five Quaestors.
