TWO INISHOWEN women have made it through to the
final of the Irish Karaoke Championships, where they
will have their singing ability dissected by X
Factor judge Louis Walsh.
Keara Kelly, from Malin Head and Buncrana women
Diana Glenn saw off the challenge of eight other
women from across the county to win the Donegal heat
at Voodoo nightclub last Wednesday night. |

Buncrana mum Glenn
impressed the Letterkenny judges with her rendition
of the Leonard Cohen number, Hallelujah, while Cher
song Walking in Memphis was Keara Kelly’s ticket to
the final.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent, both women
said they were extremely excited about going up to
sing in front of Louis Walsh, on May 30, if a little
nervous. |
“I’m not sure whether I
will sing Walking in Memphis again. I have to decide
between that and the Don’t Stop Believing by
Journey,” said full time mum Keara. “One of my
friends is going to help me get my singing voice in
tune in time for the final in a couple of weeks. I
have to decide on what outfit to wear as well. It’s
very exciting but a lot of stress,” added Keara.
Diana Glenn is a little more comfortable in the
limelight, having auditioned for the X Factor in
Letterkenny a few years ago and claimed €300 and a
bottle of champagne for winning a karaoke
competition in Milford recently.
“I am well practiced at singing. Me and a friend
used to sing in the pubs around Buncrana when we
were younger. Everyone says that Hallelujah suits my
voice, and I really like the song as well. I was
still a bit nervous singing in Letterkenny.”
Moville man Ciaran Keogh went in the male section of
the competition in Voodoo, however he did not
advance to the national final.
Both Keara and Diana will bring plenty of family and
friends to the Red Cow Inn at the end of the month
for the Irish Karaoke Final. The winning man and
woman will progress to the World Championships in
Finland on September 12. |
