Malin Mass time changes cause
concern

PROPOSED changes to the
weekend Mass programme in Malin Parish, most notably
the withdrawal of Vigil Mass in Malin Head, is
understood to have caused consternation among some
parishioners.
A notice appeared in the parish newsletter on the
15th of February proposing to change Sunday Mass at
Malin Head from 11.30am to 12noon, Mass at Lagg from
10am to 9am and at Aghaclay from 11am to 10.30am.
However it’s the possible loss of the 8pm Saturday
evening Mass, which appears to have caused most
concern. |

The changes are due to
come into effect on the first weekend of May.
Malin Head Mass goer Celia Logue told the Inishowen
Independent that she is angry at the proposed
changes, so much so that she says that she has
stopped paying the weekly parish collection.
The Gleneely woman said she doesn’t accept that
these |
changes have to be
made.
“I go to Vigil Mass in Malin Head on a Saturday
Night and don’t see why it has to go. After all, the
Vigil Mass in Aghaclay was changed from 8pm to 6pm
to allow one priest to do both Mass there and in
Malin Head.”
Mrs Logue insists the loss of one of the two Malin
Head Masses could mean not everyone gets to attend
Sunday Mass in their local chapel.
“There are a lot of holiday homes in Malin Head and
our chapel is already packed out on Sunday mornings
in the summer months. Sunday Mass in Malin Head was
previously moved from 11am to 11.30am to accommodate
10am Mass at Lagg. Now it’s moving to 12 noon which
is not suitable. It should be kept at 11.30am,” said
