Summer in Spain for McGinleys
12.06.09
'Magic' Tenerife
residency for Aidan and Rachel
FOLLOWING ON from her success at the Derry Feis,
McConomy School of Dance competitor Rachel McGinley
has landed a part in a summer long show on the
Spanish island of Tenerife. Magic Feet, an Irish
produced show, started its summer run on the Canary
Island on Tuesday.
This is a big break for the 20 year old, who had
been set to take place in the Rising Step at An
Grianan Theatre for a second year.
Instead Rachel will join up with older brother and
former Irish Dancing World Champion Aidan for the
four-person show which will take place five nights a
week until the end of August and numerous venues
across the Spanish island. |
The McGinley siblings’
mother, Margaret, said it was a great opportunity
for both her children.
“They heard about this show a couple of weeks ago
and both of them jumped at the chance to do it. They
are thrilled at the thought of going away for the
summer. Aidan flew out to join up with the troupe
yesterday while Rachel jets out this weekend.”
Aidan has three more years of a Human Resource
Management degree to finish at the University of
Hertfordshire in England while Rachael will resume
competition on her return in September.
Rachel lifted the Gerry Temple Cup (for the Heavy
Jig over 16 years) and the Bridie McLaughlin Cup
(for the Senior Ladies over 18 years) at the recent |

Derry Feis.
“The Rachel has auditioned for roles in shows like
Lord of the Dance in the past. She would really love
to spend a year away with a top show and this show
in Tenerife could be a stepping-stone for her. Aidan
is concentrating on his studies at the moment and
has given up competition, but I know he is looking
forward to this show in Spain,” said Margaret, who
this spring accompanied her daughter to the Irish
Dancing World Championships in Philadelphia.
