Just what the doctor ordered
15.06.09
NEW Inishowen county
councillor Martin Farren is "still reeling with
excitement" following his victory for Labour in the
local elections, according to his campaign manager,
Dr Don McGinley.
“Looks like the Red tide reached Inishowen and the
wind of change allowed us to catch up just on the
finish line," said the Moville GP.
"It really showed the strength of Proportional
Representation (PR) which we were relying on. We had
a strong campaign with a small team and played to
our strengths." |
Dr McGinley said the
Farren camp had a nail-biting wait to see how the
vote transfers would fall.
"Ultimately, we had to wait on the cards that were
dealt and they all came good with the running order
of the distributions favouring us," he said, adding
that the team had great sympathy for Paul Canning
who was just pipped at the post.
"It was heartbreak for Paul Canning, who was really
gracious in his congratulations to Martin Farren.
(Martin) knows well the feeling, having lost out
previously on two occasions. But he recovered and
kept faith that maybe he would get the chance again
and this is what occurred in this election. |

“We were especially
happy to retain the councillor seat for Moville as
our hard-working local councillor Marian McDonald
appeared she was going to lose out to Paul Canning
who was well above her on first preferences.
“I personally was on a sharp learning curve watching
the expert tally men from all camps. I also was
impressed with the camaraderie between all teams and
the promise in the speeches of all the candidates to
work together for the sake of Donegal," added Dr
McGinley. Meanwhile, Cllr Farren and his supporters
made the rounds of the Moville area on Friday with
his loud-hailer to thank everyone who made his
election dream come true. |
