09.10.09
IRISH dancing expert
Rachael McGinley has landed a place in Comhaltas
Ceoltóirí Eireann Tour of Ireland 2009. The Feis
Dhoire Cholmcille winner is delighted to get the
opportunity to perform with some the distinguished
organisation.
"I am used to dancing competitively and it can be
stressful, but show dancing is lots of fun. It's a
great way of making new friends also. It's great to
be able to do something you love. I hope to continue
competing for another couple of years and then
hopefully go into full-time show dancing and travel
the World."
Rachel will be joined on tour by Killea dancer
Gerard McNamee her fellow pupil at the McConomy
School of Irish Dancing.
The tour lasts for two weeks starting on 11th
October, and includes two other dancers along with
musicians from all around the country. They start
and finish in Dublin, visiting 14 different towns
from Co. Down to Co. Cork.
Gerard and Rachael dance regularly together. They
were both selected to dance in The Rising Step in An
Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny in the Summer of 2008.
Rachael was one of the three leading female dancers.
Gerard also took part this Summer in The Rising
Step, while Rachael went to Teneriefe with her
brother Aidan for the Summer to dance in a show
called Magic Feet. |
Rachael is currently
taking time out from her studies and works part-time
with Keith Prowse, in Lisfannon, which allows her
more time to concentrate on her dancing.
The 20 year old has been runner-up in the Ulster
Championships on several occasions. She placed 5th
at the All Ireland this year and 9th at the World,
which was held in Philadelphia U.S.A
Gerard is the current Ulster Champion in his age
group, which he has also won on a few other
occasions. He placed 5th in the World this year. |

They are both qualified
to dance in the World Championships which will be
held in Glasgow, April 2010. He also placed in top
ten at these events.
Their teachers said they are very proud that they
have both been selected to dance on the Comhaltas
Tour and say it's a great opportunity for both of
them.
As soon as they return, it will be straight into
practice for the Ulster Championships which are
being held in Letterkenny in November.
