DONEGAL Senator Cecilia
Keaveney has expressed her disappointment at the
dramatic cut in hours at her local library in
Moville. The service has been cut back to just two
days a week.
Senator Keaveney said she had made a number of
representations to the Donegal County Library.
"(The library) informed me that the opening hours in
a number of libraries including Moville are being
reviewed by the County Council in order to work
within available resources. The opening hours for
the Moville Library are now Wednesday, 10.30am to
12.30pm and 1.30pm to 5.30pm and on Friday from
10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm - 5.30pm," said
Senator Keaveney.
"I fully back the importance of the local library
service not just for getting books but also having a
resource for local history or other educational
projects. Knowing the interest and dedication of our
library staff across the country I would like to see
them and their expertise being available on a full
time basis."
However, the Moville-based senator said she would
like to see libraries open six days a week, rather
than two, but added, "this should be based and
argued upon the statistics of usage and not any
sentimental consideration".
"There is a strong recognition by some of the
resource and I strongly advocate young and old
alike, to use this valuable service in the very
comfortable and central facilities that now exist
in, for example, the Square, Moville," she added. |
