Donegal Enterprise
Board ceo Michael Tunney congratulated the
McLaughlins on their award.
"The McLaughlin Family richly deserve this award.
Their determination, hard work and positive attitude
are helping them to succeed even in today’s tougher
economic climate."
Pat McLaughlin spent over 20 years as a fisherman
before starting Carrymacarry Networks Ltd with just
himself and one other person. By 1980 the business
had expanded and he moved to larger premises at
Church Brae, Greencastle. His son Charles joined him
in the business in 1991 before taking over the
running of the company in 2005. Today Carrymacarry
Networks Ltd employs 18 people and exports 40% of
its products. Meanwhile, Pat’s son Patrick Jr., set
up Silver Strand Rope Works which now employs five
people at its factory in Ballynally, Moville.
Another son Sean, set up Castlecords Ltd., to
manufacture specialist braids and cords and employs
five people while Pat’s youngest son Stephen began
Atlantic Weave Ltd., which specialises in the
production of shoe laces, narrow fabrics, trimmings
and elastic. The company moved to state-of- the-art
premises in Glencrow Business Park, Moville, in 2004
from where it now exports 80% of its products. Pat
and his wife Margaret, although semi-retired,
continue to have a keen interest in all their son's
businesses. The Enterprising Donegal Business Awards
are an annual event to acknowledge the contribution
of local entrepreneurs to the economic and social
fabric of the county. For more information about
