BUNCRANA Town Council
has agreed to explore the possible delivery of a
small summer sweetshop for the town's Festival Park
playground.
The move follows a motion by Councillor Daren Lalor
who said the shop would help with the running costs
of the park in the current climate of "savage"
Government cuts.
Speaking after the recent monthly Council meeting
Cllr Lalor said he was delighted his motion was
supported by his councillor colleagues.
“Unquestionably, Festival Park is a valuable asset
to our community and attracts numerous visitors
during the fine weather since it opened back in
December 2004. It really is a credit to all those
involved who helped deliver the project," said Cllr
Lalor.
"Naturally, with all such projects comes the
unwanted financial maintenance costs and, combined
with the savage Government cuts the Buncrana Town
Council are facing, we have a responsibility to
explore all financial options.
"A small seasonal confectionery unit within the
Festival Play Park has the potential to deliver for
all our community in a number of ways not least for
any local voluntary or community group who may wish
to explore fundraising options with the new
Council," he added. |
