Chills and spills in InishSNOWen 21.12.09

INISHOWEN woke up to a pristine blanket of snow and sub zero temperatures yesterday, delighting children but causing major travel disruption for motorists.
Several inches of snow fell overnight with many icy patches on untreated roads. The worst of the cold weather has gripped Donegal, many other parts of Ulster, Connacht and north Leinster. Meteorologists expect the icy snap to last, at least, into the early days of this week.
Road temperatures remained below zero in Inishowen yesterday as drivers were advised not to undertake unnecessary journeys.
Despite the winter chill, children in the peninsula had fun in the first snowfall of the season yesterday. Snowman construction, snowballing, sliding and sledging was the main order of the day. Meanwhile, Donegal County Council's gritting trucks continue to be on alert as temperatures plummet. To view more photos of InishSNOWen click here .
