Tree Planting Party in Dunree 24.11.09

PEOPLE in the peninsula are invited to don their wellies and spades and join Transition Inishowen next month for a 'Tree Planting Party' in Dunree. The event takes place on December 5 on the lands around Fort Dunree on the shores of Lough Swilly with a big tea party planned afterwards in the visitors' centre cafe.
"You are invited to bring wellies and a spade. Also bring with you your favourite pie, cake, salad or dessert to share with all the other folk who will be doing the same," said organiser Bev Doherty.
Children and adults take part in a recent Transition Inishowen Tree Planting Party. Songs, music, games, story-telling and dancing will also take place, she said. "The bigger the crowd, the greater the craic. There will be information on the growing worldwide Transition Towns movement, and prizes for those arriving using a more sustainable form of transport. Finally if you have any ideas for a more sustainable less money-orientated Christmas, bring those along too," added Bev.
Transition initiatives have sprung up in Inishowen, Derry, Donegal and Omagh and are grassroots community responses to climate change, increasing demand
on finite oil reserves and the economic downturn. The groups support each another through creative discussions, showing films and learning or relearning self reliance skills such as growing and cooking your own food, foraging, baking bread, insulating your house, making baskets and reducing your carbon footprint. The Transition ethos is “living better with less”. Many Transition workshops and events in Inishowen were oversubscribed this year and the group also anticipates an enthusiastic crowd for the 'Tree Planting Party'. The event takes place on Saturday, December 5 at Fort Dunree from 11am. Everyone welcome.
