"Too many holiday homes" says
actor

HOLLYWOOD actor Aidan
Quinn has urged the people of Inishowen to be proud
of their national monuments.
The Irish American heart-throb was speaking
yesterday in Malin at an official press conference
on the set of his new film 'A Shine of Rainbows'.
"I think it is important for the Government and
heritage society and everyone to take a look at how
we treat our historical monuments because they
attract tourists and they bring money into the
county. |
Even if you don't
really give a toss about history, (historical
monuments) are a good business to take good care of
and there are some of them I think that have been
neglected,” said Quinn.
"I don't want to embarrass the Council or anything
because we have got such good treatment here so that
would not be my |

place, but I do want to
say that I think that the better you take care of
your historical monuments the better chance you have
of attracting tourism. Heritage is part of us and is
a good thing to preserve."
The ‘Michael Collins’ and ‘Legends of the Fall’ star
also believed there were "too many" holiday homes in
Inishowen. |

"There are too many
holiday homes...way too many, in my humble opinion.
Sixty to eighty per cent of them are empty so maybe
I'll wait until they are dirt cheap," said Quinn, on
being asked if he would consider buying a local
getaway.
Meanwhile, Quinn's co-star Connie Nielsen chose to
stay in character during the lunchtime conference |
and, speaking in an
accomplished Donegal accent, described how much she
enjoyed filming locally.
"It's lovely. It’s been such a great time shooting
here and my son's been enjoying it too," said
Neilsen.
