A DONEGAL cancer group
were beginning to think the myth about men not
bothering about their health was true when it seemed
none would turn up for a recent men's wellbeing
event.
But ten minutes after the scheduled start time,
"from what appeared to be out of nowhere" around 60
of the county's finest walked through the door.
Donegal Action for Cancer Care (DACC) said they were
delighted with the turn out after initially
believing their recent 'You Men Be Good to
Yourselves' event would be a wash-out.
The group enlisted the help of Buncrana community
activist, PJ Hallinan to get some feedback from the
men after the event in the Mount Errigal Hotel.
A resounding 'brilliant' was the general response,
said a delighted DACC spokesperson.
"Those who attended were united in their feedback
from the floor in that it was the right amount of
information to start and that the information packs
were excellent," said a DACC spokesperson.
"It was also proposed that the night would be taken
around the county so many people could benefit from
it. The easy manner in which all the speakers
conveyed the important information is a great credit
to them in their professions. The topics covered
were bowel and prostate cancer, general health, diet
and
nutrition, positive mental health and humour."
This was followed by a Q&A session while the men
were also invited to talk to the main speakers on a
one-to-one. Before tea, there were a number of
raffles for some great gifts - all with the focus on
men! If you would like to find out more about the
men's evenings, contact DACC on 91 28400 or log on
