AN INISHOWEN councillor
has hit out at the 'intimidation' of residents of
Clonmany and Carndonagh by boyracers.
Sinn Féin Cllr Pádraig Mac Lochlainn said he had
received phonecalls from concerned locals about a
range of dangrous driving activities."I have
received phonecalls about speeding, 'diffing' and
other anti-social and dangerous activities by
boyracers in their communities. Indeed some of these
activities are now taking place in the late evening
time.
"They (residents) are concerned for the safety of
local pedestrians and road users as well as these
young people themselves," said Cllr.
MacLochlainn.The Buncrana-based town and county
councillor said locals had reported a number of
incidents to Gardai who, in turn, have attempted to
prevent the problem.
"Ultimately the responsibility lies with the young
people themselves. What they view as great fun is
actually selfish and irresponsible behaviour.
"Residents are intimidated and frightened by their
acts. I am calling on the young people responsible
to immediately stop their actions. We have seen
enough road tragedies in Inishowen and the
heartbreak they bring," he added. |
