GARDAI are continuing
their probe into the shooting dead of a man in
Donnyloop on Tuesday night.
The victim was named locally as 27-year old Andrew
Burns from Strabane, County Tyrone.
State Pathologist Marie Cassidy arrived at the scene
yesterday and the body was removed to Letterkenny
Hospital for post mortem. The Garda Technical Bureau
began a forensic examination of the scene. The Real
IRA yesterday denied carrying out the murder. It is
understood the victim was taken from a car and shot
outside Doneyloop chapel at around 7.30pm. The
incident has left the quiet border village reeling.
Meanwhile, Sinn Féin called on anyone with
information on the killing to tell the Gardai.
Senator Pearse Doherty said: “There has been concern
for a number of months now at a rise in border
crime. However, the killing of a man last night
close to where an event was taking place in a local
community centre has sent shockwaves through the
community." |
