THE journey times for
Inishowen people travelling through Derry has been
significantly cut with the opening yesterday of the
new £4 million Skeoge Link Road.
The road begins near Bridgend at Whitehouse and
bypasses the busy Buncrana Road for anyone wishing
to get to the Waterside and other areas. It will
also reduce travelling times for commuters who
travel regularly to centres such as Coleraine and
Belfast.
The Mayor of Derry, Alderman Drew Thompson welcomed
new £4m dual carriageway.
Speaking at the official opening also attended by
the Minister for Regional Development, Conor Murphy,
Cllr. Thompson said the road would alleviate traffic
congestion in the north of the city and would boost
cross-border trade.
"It will assist us in promoting the city as a good
place to do business and reiterates our commitment
to providing a quality cross border roads network,”
he said.
“The provision of this new road infrastructure is a
tremendous boost for the entire community. While
reducing journey times, the road will also benefit
those living in the Galliagh and Shantallow areas of
the city."
The dual carriageway link is 2km in length and
includes two roundabouts. It is also expected to
facilitate future planned developments on both sides
of the Skeoge Link. There will also be pedestrian
and cycling facilities on the road. |
