Pedestrians struck by car in Buncrana 18.03.08

TWO non nationals were seriously injured at the weekend when they were struck by a car in Buncrana. The accident happened around 3.40am on Saturday on the Causeway (Cassy) Road. It's understood the victims, a male and a female aged 26 and 27, were in a group of three when they were struck by a car. The third person was uninjured. A Garda spokesperson said the driver of the vehicle, a local man in his 70s, stopped and was interviewed at the scene by Gardai. The victims were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Later that day, two Carndonagh teenagers had a miraculous escape when their car left the road, plunged into a field and burst into flames.
Garda Sergeant John O'Keeffe said the teens, aged 17 and 18, were lucky to escape with their lives, judging by the condition the car was in following the accident.
The car that left the Mountain Road on Saturday and plunged 60m down into a field.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon around 12.30pm on the Carndonagh Mountain Road at Carrowhill, Drumfries. "It appears the driver lost control of the car and it went over the ditch and into the field," said Sgt. O'Keeffe. "Just after the occupants got out of the car, it caught fire. The local Fire Brigade was called and they put out the fire," he explained. The teenagers managed to walk away from the accident with only a few minor cuts and bruises.
