CLONMANY’S relaxed attitude towards Sunday’s
Buncrana Credit Union Cup Final helped the team turn
in a magnificent performance, manager Martin
Cavanagh said afterwards.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent, Cavanagh
suggested that the team had been very positive, but
relaxed going into the match with their big rivals.
“I think because we already had won a cup last week
there was no real pressure on the boys. They were
able to relax and play their own game and what a
performance they put in.”
Indeed the Shamrocks boss said it was always
fantastic to win a cup final, but to win in in such
a manner made victory sweeter.
“It was a brilliant performance, our keeper never
had a save to make and it’s nice to win in such a
fashion.”
However he suggested the defeat must have been
difficult for Redcastle to swallow, particularly
since games between the side have been so close in
recent times.
“They must be feeling really low, I think this is
their seventh cup final defeat in a row, but as I
said our lads went out with a great attitude and the
game was basically over by half time.”
With two cups under their belt already, they might
be forgiven for thinking they’ve enough silverware
stocked away for the season, but having lost out at
the final hurdle for the league title last year,
that’s one Clonmany would dearly love to add to this
season’s trophy cabinet.
“We have two very hard games left and we know that
it will not be easy for us, but if we can play those
games like we played this game tonight I don’t think
we need to fear anyone,” he concluded.
Clonmany continue their league campaign tonight with
a game against Illies Celtic but the title race may
well go all the way to the wire and the last game
between them and Redcastle could well see once again
which of the two are this year’s Premier Division
Champions. |
