Celebrity gardener heads for Carn 08.02.08

CELEBRITY gardener Diarmuid Gavin will be in Carndonagh later this month for the first round of public consultations to design a town park.
The TV gardener and landscape architect has teamed up with the Public Art Office and Donegal County Council to design and create one of the "most imaginative and ambitious" community spaces and play parks for the North Inishowen town. He will travel to Carndonagh on Wednesday, February 20, to begin a period of consultations with the schools and local community.
Diarmuid Gavin "These sessions will form the design concepts for the Barrack Hill Town Park taking into consideration the thoughts of over 100 participants from the area," explained Aideen Doherty of Donegal County Council's community and enterprise section. The local community will also get the chance to hear Diarmuid in a public lecture on the role of a garden designer/landscape architect. He will show examples of creative gardens around the world and will give a general talk on his own background and where he gets his inspiration.
Diarmuid Gavin studied horticulture at
the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin after which he established his own garden design business. He won silver at Chelsea in 2004 for his 'Contemporary Suburban Garden'.
His lecture will take place in the Arás, Carndonagh Community School, at 8pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. For more information contact 074 93 73718.
