by Kevin Kelly, Inishowen Independent

THE 41st Annual Clonmany Agricultural and Sheepdog Association Show in the Pollan Green, Ballyliffin attracted a wide range of competitors, exhibitors and spectators from all over the county and country.
The long running and extremely popular show has become one of the largest and most successful events in the Clonmany Festival programme.
The agricultural show ranks highly among the best shows of its kind held anywhere in the country. This was evident on Tuesday with all four provinces represented in various categories across the competitions.
One of the highlights of this year’s event was the “All Ireland Baby Beef Heifer Competition” sponsored by Cassidy Brothers Concrete Products. There was €2,000 prize fund for this section.
This category drew a large number of entrants from across the country with the eventual winner, Gareth McGuinness of Drogheda, Co. Louth being awarded €750 in prize

money. Congratulations must also go to Marie McCormick from Westmeath and to Michael and Kevin Noone from Cloontagh who came second and third respectively.
However, competition was not confined to livestock. There were competitions for young and old alike ranging from home industries, cake-making, children’s arts and crafts, photography, the Ace Catering Afternoon Tea Competition and dressmaking.
Speaking to the Inishowen Independent last week, Marius Noone, chairperson of the Clonmany Agricultural and Sheepdog Association said: “I am very proud to say that this year’s show was a tremendous success which succeeded in attracting a record crowd. We believe the show met its target of catering for both the competitive showmen and women and families out for a day’s entertainment.”
He continued: “I am especially delighted to see the effort our young exhibitors have made, both in livestock and home industries; it gives us great enthusiasm for the future of our show.”
The committee man thanked fellow committee members past and present, stewards and helpers for the time, effort and hard work they have put into this show.
“I would also like to thank the landowners, all our judges and especially our sponsors without whose support the show would not have been possible,” he concluded.
