PEOPLE in Inishowen who
have been waiting between six and twelve months for
a colonoscopy have been urged to contact their GP.
Donegal Action for Cancer Care (DACC) last night
urged the 94 people in the county waiting over a
year and the 153 people waiting six months to a year
for the bowel test, to take action.
"For patients who are waiting more than three
months, they can contact the National Treatment
Purchase Fund on Lo Call phone number 1890 720 820
to discuss referral for a colonoscopy to a private
hospital free of charge," said DACC chairperson
Betty Holmes.
"We are aware that people in Donegal do not use the
National Treatment Fund, most likely due to the fact
that people have faith in the expertise that exists
at Letterkenny General Hospital.
"On this occasion we are saying you should take this
opportunity to have your colonoscopy test."
Ms Holmes said that with the passage of time, people
may have forgotten when they were referred for the
test.
"If so check and follow up on it. If you are not
sure, ask the question: "Am I one of these people
waiting? "Am I going for that test?
"While we would urge people not to panic, we would
say for you to take action yourself," added Ms
Holmes. |
