CANCER campaign group
Co-operating for Cancer Care NorthWest has said it
is "confident" the National Cancer Screening Service
and Letterkenny General Hospital are working
together to retain the local colposcopy service.
CCC(NW) spokesperson Noelle Duddy said she
understood the National Cervical Screening Programme
requires the hospital to make a number of
enhancements to its current colposcopy services.
This is to allow it to reach its standardised level
of quality-assured care."We have been assured by the
NCSS and Seán Murphy, the Letterkenny Hospital
general manager that both organisations are
currently addressing these issues together," said Ms
Duddy.
“We understand that Seán Murphy is confident that
the issues that preclude the NCSS from recognising
Letterkenny as a referral centre for abnormal
smears, can and will be resolved imminently and that
the colposcopy services will be recognised as an
appropriate referral centre for the screening
programme. "We trust Seán Murphy’s judgment
regarding this matter and we trust him to act in the
best interests of the women of Donegal.”
The group said it was of the "utmost importance" to
the women of Donegal, that the issues pertaining to
the delay in providing colposcopy services for
CervicalCheck, are addressed as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, CCC(NW) will send a delegation to Dublin
this Saturday, October 11, to take part in the
Public Health Services Campaign Rally organised by
trade unions and Patients Together. Participants are
asked to assemble at the Garden of Remembrance,
Parnell Square, for 2pm. |
