Take 9 cllrs, add 5 reporters
and...

A BUNCRANA councillor
has urged the town's citizens to exercise their
right to attend monthly Council meetings.
Cllr. Daren Lalor has consistently lobbied for the
townspeople to come and see the workings of local
authority meetings. |
As it stands, the room
in which meetings are held barely contains the nine
councillors and the various Council staff members
and executives.
Add four or five local reporters, a packed agenda
and it's stuffy, standing room only. But Cllr. Lalor
has also been consistent in his calls for a proper
public gallery in any new civic offices of the
future.
"It's vitally important that members of our
community are aware of the ongoing work done in the
chamber on their behalf," he said.. It needs to be
clearly stated that all members of our |
|
community are welcome
to attend such meetings. While we, as elected
representatives, have healthy political differences
we also, contrary to popular belief, agree on many
issues to progress the town forward."
The Sinn Féin councillor said the increasing number
of deputations was "encouraging".
"It is encouraging during my term in office, that so
many community and voluntary groups have made
deputations at our meetings but it is also important
that those individuals who do take an interest in
issues that are affecting our town are encouraged to
come along and witness the work the elected
representatives do on their behalf." |
