Buncrana to get new development officer 14.01.08

BUNCRANA Town Council's decision to appoint a development officer to promote tourism and community relations has been welcomed by Cllr. Daren Lalor.
Speaking after last week's budget meeting, the Sinn Féin councillor said he was "delighted" the Council had finally realised the importance of providing funding for a such an officer.
"Under Programme 4 of this year's budget, we have secured the necessary funding to create a new position within the Council, that of a development/community liaison officer," said Cllr. Lalor.
Cllr. Daren Lalor. "Having seen the potential for such an officer in Letterkenny, I tabled a motion back in October 2006 calling on Buncrana Town Council to explore the possibility of providing funding for the post. I envisage that the role of this new officer will be challenging and diverse.
"It will cover roles such as researching and submitting funding applications, promoting tourist developments, liaising closely with Buncrana Chamber of Commerce, tenant associations and voluntary groups throughout our town."
Cllr. Lalor said the creation of such a role was an "exciting" development for the seaside town.
"The reality is, that by creating this new role, various opportunities will now be created such as the chance to secure potential funding that we have lost out on over the years and desperately require if we want to see our town move forward," he said.
"This, in turn, will then enhance our chances of attracting investment and new business. It also creates the opportunity for existing and future tenant associations and community groups to reach their full potential. So while it is early days, this new position can have the potential to help so many within the town," added Cllr. Lalor.
