DONEGAL County Council
has been allocated €4,248,660 to help older people
and people with disabilities adapt their homes to
suit their needs.
The allocation will go towards housing adaptation
grants to allow people to continue living at home.
Inishowen Senator Cecilia Keaveney said she was
delighted with the level of funding to the local
authority in her home county.
"These schemes are vitally important in assisting
older people and people with a disability to
continue to live in their own homes and communities
with the dignity that they deserve," she said.
She said Government expenditure under the Adaptation
Grant Schemes for Older People and People with a
Disability and the Special Housing Aid for the
Elderly Scheme had totalled €652m from 1997 to 2007.
"This represents over 120,000 older people or people
with a disability who this Government have assisted
in remaining in their own homes and in their own
communities.
"This again highlights the Government's commitment
to providing for the older members of the community
and I will continue to work to ensure the delivery
of such incentives in the future," she added. |
