Pavarotti cellist returns to
Tooban 25.04.08
A CELLIST who has
played with such musical greats such as Kiri te
Kanawa, Pavarotti, Sinead O'Connor and the Chieftains
is returning to Inishowen this Summer.
Jane Hughes is back with her Encore International
Summer School at Scoil Naomh Mura in Tooban.
Her 'Encore' is due to the huge success of last
year's School which introduced young local musicians
to a unique combination of classical and traditional
tuition by some of the world's leading musicians. |
|
Tuition at this year's
School in July will be given by musicians from the
Vienna Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra; top classical
guitarist Michael O'Toole; pianist Darina Gibson;
Derry soprano Margaret Keys and renowned sean-nós
singer Eilín Begley to name but some.
"We found the fusion of both classical and
traditional Irish styles |
worked really well
together last year," said Ms. Hughes, who is
artistic director.
"We're hoping that we'll recreate that same
chemistry this year and we look forward to welcoming
the high calibre tutors back to Inishowen."
Jane, who is from Derry has impressive musical
resumé having worked as a freelance cellist with the
RTE Concert Orchestra, RTE National Symphony
Orchestra and many others. She has performed with
artists including Pavarotti, Carreras, Domingo,
Charlotte Church, Rod Stewart, Westlife, Sarah
Brightman and Meatloaf.
Highlights of this year's programme, supported by
Donegal County Council and Fáilte Ireland, include
lessons and master-classes, lunch time concerts,
chamber music coaching, family music workshops,
traditional Irish music workshops, sean-nós singing
and Alexander Technique training.
