BUNCRANA has been
shocked by the sudden and untimely death of 43-year
old Fergus McEleney in America.
Fergus died on Monday, February 11, in San
Francisco, where he had been living for many years.
Tributes have been pouring in for the affable
businessman who co-owned Durty Nellies, a popular
Irish-themed pub on Irving Street, San Francisco. He
also set up a bar in recent years in Costa Rica.
His brother-in-law George McLaughlin today told
InishowenNews.com that the McEleney family were
devastated by Fergus' untimely passing.
"What can you say except Fergus was a lovely fella
and was always easy to get on with. He'll be sadly
missed," he said.
The son of Mary and Paddy McEleney, Ardaravan,
Fergus was a father of two boys - Brennan, 6, and
Riley, 4 - who live with their mother Mairead in
Galway.
Fergus, the youngest in the McEleney family, is also
survived by his brothers and sisters Carmel, John,
Mary, Sheila and James.
His remains are reposing at Duggan's Funeral Home in
San Francisco and Requiem Mass will be held at St.
Philip's Church, San Francisco, on Thursday,
February 14. Fergus' remains will be flown home on
Saturday to repose at his mother's home at Ardaravan,
Buncrana.
Funeral will take place on Monday, February 18, 2008
in Cockhill.
