Setting the stage for European
Seniors Tour
29.02.08
THE staging of the
European Seniors Tour is expected to come at a
considerable expense to Ballyliffin Golf Club.
The club is actively seeking sponsors to contribute
to these costs and has already secured the support
of Fáilte Ireland North West. |
However, the event will
bring invaluable national and international exposure
with extensive television and media coverage for the
premier North West golf club.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase Ballyliffin
as a world class golf and holiday destination and to
profile the region to a wider audience," said club
manager, John Farren. |
|
A media day is to be
held in late April and will see Ballyliffin hosting
a number of leading journalists and golf writers.
Meanwhile, Andy Robertson and his greenkeeping staff
have been preparing the course for the event since
its announcement in October.
"It is a considerable undertaking to have a links
course in condition so early in the season but with
a little help from Mother Nature, the head
greenkeeper is confident that Ballyliffin will be
ready for June," added Mr. Farren. |
|
An extensive re-turfing
of all bunkers has been completed over the winter
and it is expected the new irrigation system will be
completed by the end of March with commissioning in
April. The club has decided to rest The Old Links
wherever possible in the coming months and is asking
members to divert play to Glashedy when feasible.
Volunteers are |
being sought for
marshalling, scoring and courtesy driving duties.
