Inishowen Gospel Choir to rock
Glastonbury
11.06.08
THE Inishowen Gospel
Choir is celebrating a huge coup after landing a gig
at the world's largest performing arts festival -
Glastonbury.
The talented troupe will head off later this month
for what will surely be the gig of a lifetime.
Choir manager, Kathryn O'Callaghan explained how the
group applied but missed the deadline for last
year's programme. They were then delighted to be
contacted after Christmas by one of Glastonbury's
festival agents.
Kathryn said the gig was sealed when the agent heard
the choir's recent musical CV which included two hit
performances with Belfast's Duke Special, one of
which made it to BBC Radio Ulster. |

The local choir will
now get the chance to perform not once, but four
times – from Thursday, June 26 to Sunday, June 29 -
during the English festival that is world famous not
only for its great music but also for its mud
parties.
"Glastonbury is really massive and we're absolutely
delighted to be invited to perform there," said
Kathryn.
She explained that while unsigned British artists
only get a chance to play Glastonbury through a
music competition, they were lucky to get through
the door as visiting artists under the 'world music'
banner.
The Inishowen Gospel Choir will perform in the Green
Futures Festival strand of Glastonbury which is
devoted to all things eco-friendly and includes
numerous acts from around the world.
"We'll be playing on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday and will play the Small World Stage and the
Tadpole Stage," added Kathryn.
The up-and-coming group are now getting to grips
with the logistics of travel arrangements for such a
large act. No fewer than 15 singers including two
musical directors, five musicians and their various
musical instruments, one roadie and one photographer
are all Glastonbury-bound from the peninsula. And
we’ll be hoping that where there's muck, there's
money, in terms of fame and fortune in the future
for the homegrown headliners. |
