Moville Green set for facelift 12.05.08

PICTURESQUE Moville Green is set for a facelift with new summer seats and repairs to an old boundary wall.
Local politicians, however, are calling for the works to begin sooner than scheduled, so visitors and locals can get the benefit of them during this season.
Cllr. Marian McDonald said the existing July and August timeframes for the works under the HEART cross-border regeneration project was too late.
“One of the aims for the Green is that the white wall would be rebuilt for the summer and that new benches would be installed before the end of July.

"I was very disillusioned after raising the issue of seating at the recent Heart meeting as I was informed that only eleven seats would be provided and these wouldn’t be installed until the end of August, the end of the tourist season."
The Moville-based councillor urged people to look after the new seats once they were installed.
"I call on all those who use the Green, both young and old, to respect the facilities that are put in place as seats are needed for people to use, not abuse," she added.
Meanwhile, her Fianna Fáil colleague Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the fact that Moville was one of the participating towns in the HEART project run by Donegal County Council in association with Strabane District Council. HEART is an acronym for Heritage, Environment, Art and Rural Tourism.
"A public art piece is being commissioned for the end of the pier and this will be installed toward the end of the year and it is hoped that a safety railing will also be installed in the coming weeks on the shore path. Discussions have also been held about the Green and it is intended to meet with other interested parties including local community members in the coming weeks to discuss options to improve this area. I would encourage all those interested to get involved,” added Senator Keaveney.
