FORMER SDLP leader John
Hume and his wife Pat suffered minor injuries in a
two-car crash near Greencastle on Saturday evening.
The collision happened on the narrow, winding,
coastal road at Carrowtrasna, Shroove, around
5.30pm. It was close to nightfall at the time of the
accident and weather conditions were wet. An SDLP
spokesperson confirmed that the 71-year old Nobel
Laureate and his wife were taken to Altnagelvin
Hospital where they were assessed for minor injuries
and discharged a few hours later. |
The driver of the other
vehicle, a man with an address in the Greencastle
area, was uninjured but was arrested and taken to
Buncrana Garda Station. He was subsequently charged
with a road traffic offence and is scheduled to
appear at Carndonagh District Court today. Mr. Hume
was the joint winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in
1998 with former Ulster |

Trimble. He retired from the SDLP leadership in 2001
and now lives most of the time in Greencastle. |
