DRIVERS in Inishowen
will be able to get their cars NCT tested in
Carndonagh from August, it's been revealed.
Planning permission has been granted to convert an
existing building in the town into an NCT car
testing centre.
Senator Cecilia Keaveney yesterday said she expected
the centre to be operational by August.
“I am delighted with this news. I was disgusted when
the NCT was granted without any reference to a
facility for the 30,000 people on the peninsula of
Inishowen," she said, adding that she had raised the
matter with every Minister who held the portfolio
relevant to the NCT.
“The National Car Testing Service met last week to
finalise aspects of the building specification.
Planning permission has been granted for the
conversion of an existing building in Carndonagh and
it is expected that works may begin in the next
number of weeks. Subject to any unforeseen
developments it is expected to commence testing in
the August period."
Local NCT testing will eliminate the long drive to
Letterkenny for people in the peninsula.
Senator Keaveney added: "Having our own NCT centre
in Inishowen is an important development for the
area. Not only will this mean ease of access and
more convenience in terms of getting your car put
through the test but more importantly from a road
safety perspective, it will continue to weed out
those vehicles that are not roadworthy which can
only add to any new and ongoing road safety
initiatives." |
