Inishowen Rose delighted with Tipp
pal's win 03.09.08

FIONA Doherty, the Quigley’s Point girl who
represented Donegal in the Rose of Tralee
competition earlier this year, has said she’s
delighted that Tipperary Rose Aoife Kelly won the
title last week.
Fiona met Aoife at the regional final held in
Portlaoise in June and the pair quickly struck up a
firm friendship. “We met at the final and I got
really friendly with Aoife and Charlene Connolly the
Clare Rose,” Fiona said. “We’ve kept in touch since
and I’m not one bit surprised that Aoife won it.” |
A graduate of Queen’s
University in Belfast, Fiona Doherty beat off 15
rivals from across the county to be named Donegal
Rose at the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny in
May.
The 22 year-old did not progress from the 30
finalists at the regional competition in Portlaoise,
but Aoife Kelly was one of six Roses to advance to
last week’s televised final in Tralee.
“I’m delighted that Aoife won, she really had the

package,” Fiona continued. “She
was a lovely girl, smart, good craic and good
looking.”
“I only came back from a working holiday in Spain
last Wednesday, so I actually missed the show on
television,” Fiona admitted. “I was working in a
camp outside Madrid and also spent some time in
Majorca, but I returned to rainy old Ireland last
week.”
“I will take the time to watch the show on my
computer, and I’ll contact Aoife when everything
calms down to congratulate her properly.” |
