A TOTAL of 1,761 people
are currently signing on for unemployment payments
in Buncrana - an increase of 138 in twelve months.
The increase is among rises in most parts of Donegal
recorded in December 2007 compared to the same
period the year before.
A total of 9,107 people are now signing on in the
county, a rise of 333.
All welfare offices in the county recorded increases
with the exception of Dungloe.
Letterkenny had an extra 204 people signing on from
December 2006 to December 2007 while Killybegs
recorded an increase of 94 to 753 and in Ballybofey,
the figure rose by 67 to 870.
There was an increase of 38 in Dunfanaghey where the
live register total now stands at 852.
Meanwhile, 25 extra people signed on in Ballyshannon
last year bringing the live register total there to
602 while there was an increase of just eight people
in Donegal Town.
Dungloe was the only town in the county where there
was a drop in the numbers with 50 fewer people
signing on than the same time last year. The figure
in Dungloe now stands at 1,200. |
