COUNCILLOR Pádraig
MacLochlainn has criticised Deputy Joe McHugh for
"not providing all the facts on Cockhill Bridge" to
a local man before he embarked on a petition for an
upgrade and pedestrian footbridge.
Cllr Mac Lochlainn said: "Firstly, funding for a
pedestrian footbridge had been secured for Cockhill
Bridge prior to the commencement of this petition as
a condition of planning permission for houses
recently constructed in Clonbeg. The delay in
construction is due to recent changes in tendering
processes and while this has caused serious
frustration to the elected representatives, it is
anticipated that the footbridge will be completed in
the next nine months."
He said the second reason no funding application for
a new bridge at Cockhill had been submitted over the
last four years that he had served on Donegal County
Council was that an alternative bridge over the
Crana River is planned under the agreed route of the
Buncrana Inner and Outer Relief Road.
"I am seriously alarmed that Deputy McHugh clearly
did not bring any of this information to Oliver O'
Donnell's attention as his three local party
colleagues on Buncrana Town Council and Donegal
County Council were fully aware of these facts and
any impression given to Oliver that the local
elected representatives were not addressing the
unacceptable infrastructure and public safety
problems at Cockhill Bridge is a disservice to them
and very disappointing."
Deputy McHugh recently recommended that he would
pass the petition to county manager Michael McLoone. |
