Moville urged to enjoy Paddy's Day

PEOPLE in Moville are
being urged to 'Celebrate St. Patrick's Day Wisely'
through artwork posted throughout the town.
The chosen posters are the work of Tiarnan O Caolain,
a pupil at Gaelscoil Cois Feabhail and Orlaith
Furlong, who attends Moville Community College.
Their posters were the winners in a recent
competition run by the Moville Community Alcohol
Project. Tiarnan and Orlaith's artwork has been
professionally reproduced to carry the message:

alcohol to young people under 18.’ |

Alcohol Project Coordinator David Simpson said the
research showed that starting to drink early can
lead to developing alcohol dependency as an adult.
“It may seem like a small thing when people say 'Oh
go on, have a wee drink, it won’t do you any harm'
but it can lead to young people being involved in
car crashes while alcohol misuse can make it harder
to study.”
Mr. Simpson said adults should remember that while
they may enjoy a drink, they also have a
responsibility to the young people around them
including brothers and sisters, sons and daughters
and neighbours.
"We are calling on everyone this St. Patrick’s Day
to act wisely around alcohol and not give any to
young people under 18 and to encourage other adults
to do the same. The project wants to thank Tiarnan
and Orlaith for their winning posters and for
helping us to raise the community’s awareness.
“It is time that we rejected the weary acceptance of
underage drinking and found again the spirit of
watching out for each other and creating a community
where young people are not exposed to alcohol too
early," he added. |
