NEWS that the screen writers strike has come to an
end and this year’s Oscars Ceremony will now go
ahead has come as a huge relief to a Buncrana couple
who have scooped tickets to the glitzy awards
ceremony later this month.
Amanda Doherty and her husband Adrian Gill will be
among just 300 invited guests from all over the
world who will take their exclusive seats alongside
the famous red carpet. |
Speaking to the
Inishowen Independent, Amanda said she was delighted
they had been able to secure the tickets that movie
lovers the world over would love to get their hands
on.
“There is a lottery every year for the seats called
‘the bleacher seats’ out on the red carpet and I’ve |

applied on the website for a
few years now but had no luck. I could hardly
believe it when we got word that we were successful
this year.”
News that Amanda and Adrian were successful came in
October, but before they could start planning for
their trip they had to fulfil a series of background
checks before they were eventually given the nod to
say they could attend.
The Buncrana couple are now ready to jet off on
February 21 and will stay in posh Beverly Hills for
the duration of their once-in-a-lifetime trip.
However, Oscars day itself is set to be a hectic and
fun filled day with Amanda who runs the Town Clock
Restaurant in Buncrana and Adrian, set to take their
seats around 9am.
“There will be a huge build up to the event itself
and all the television cameras and reporters will be
there early so we have to get along early too for
the build up. We’re really looking forward to it,
we’ll literally be just two or three feet away from
where the stars will walk in on the red carpet.”
Amanda who is a long time movie fan, says she’s been
so busy in the restaurant this year that she hasn’t
had a chance to see any of the movies nominated for
awards.
“I hope that Daniel Day Lewis gets an Oscar though,
I haven’t seen the movie but I’ve seen some of the
trailers for the movie and it looks excellent. I
love his other films anyway so I’d be delighted if
he wins.”
But Amanda and Adrian won’t have to sit on the
bleachers all night waiting for word on who has been
successful because the 300 lucky movie goers who won
the bleacher lottery have also been invited to a
celebrity Oscars party by television network ABC.
“We are really looking forward to the ABC party and
we understand there will be celebrities there so it
will be amazing. We’ve heard that Beyonce or Tina
Turner might be performing so it would be fantastic
to get to see them, but we don’t really care who we
see, we’re really looking forward to having a
terrific time,” Amanda said. |
