Mayor killed in Donegal crash 10.11.08

GARDAI are investigating a fatal road traffic crash yesterday in which three men including the Mayor of Ballyshannon, were killed. A car and a van were in collision around 10am at Ballymagrorty, on the main road between Ballyshannon and Donegal Town.
Cllr PJ Branley, the 58 year old Sinn Féin Mayor of Ballyshannon was confirmed among the dead. A second man in the van, also believed to be a Sinn Féin member, was also killed in the collision. The 17-year old driver of the car also died in the accident. Ballyshannon Town Council and Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams paid tribute last night to Mr Branley's work as a councillor and community leader.  The late PJ Branley.
Fermanagh-born Cllr Branley was a construction worker and was married with a family of six. He was elected to Ballyshannon Town Council in 2004 and had a long history of community activism. The scene of yesterday's horrific collision was closed for some time as a forensic examination got underway.
