White House
01.04.08
THE North's First
Minister Ian Paisley chose to wear an Inishowen-made
shirt for his historic meeting with US President
George W Bush.
Moville Clothing Company has revealed that Dr.
Paisley contacted them before his trip in early
December and ordered two of their top-quality
handmade shirts for his trip. |
"He wrote to us to
order two shirts and said in the letter 'I'll be
talking to George Bush wearting a shirt from
Moville'," said Ray Doherty, one of the directors.
"We watched the visit on TV and Dr. Paisley was also
wearing one of our shirts when he was in Times
Square with Martin McGuinness."

Sunday and plans to retire at the end of May has
been buying shirts from Moville Clothing Company
since last year.
Ray estimates he now owns around a dozen
Moville-made garments.
"The two he bought for his trip to America were
business shirts and were French double-cuffed and
100% cotton. One was pale blue pinstripe with a
white collar, the other, plain pale blue," added
Ray. |

He said the company was
considering making a special shirt to mark Dr.
Paisley's retirement.
Moville Clothing is run by the Doherty brothers,
Ray, Hilary and Joe with their 68-year old father,
Harry, a master cutter, helping out with big orders.
Their business relationship with Ian Paisley began
in December 2006 when the company sent a
complimentary shirt handmade by Harry at the |
suggestion of Rev. Jim
Rea who has had his shirts made with the small firm
for some years.
Ray yesterday said Dr. Paisley's measurements have
remained the same - a 16.5” collar and 44” chest.
Moville Clothing Company employs 13 machinists at
the Glencrow Industrial Estate, Moville. It is the
last remaining shirt-making company in Donegal and
also enjoys a strong trade making shirts for
barristers.
One of the mainstays of the business is the 30,000
traditional flannelette grandfather shirts the firm
makes for Magee's of Donegal every year. |
