30.07.08
NINE sports groups
around Inishowen are celebrating a grants windfall
from the Department of Sports and Tourism. Quigley's
Point Swifts were the biggest beneficiary in the
peninsula and one of the biggest in the county with
a cheque for €140,000. The other allocations are as
follows: Buncrana Youth and Community Development Co
Ltd, €80,000; Inishowen Football League, €45,000;
Gleneely Colts FC , €60,000; Rashenny FC, €60,000;
Illies FC, €30,000; Inishowen Youth Fitness
Association, €2,000; Greencastle Community
Development Co Ltd, €3,000 and North Pole Cycling
Club, €4,000. Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the
allocations for her home peninsula." Inishowen
continues to score well in the Sports Lotto funding
and boasts some of the best pitches and sports
facilities in the country," she said. "Sporting
clubs and organisations are part of the backbones of
our communities and provide an important outlet for
children and adults of all ages to socialise and to
engage in healthy, sporting activities."
The Moville-based senator said sport activities
helped to bring communities together. "They promote
fitness and bring people together from throughout
their localities. They have made a great
contribution to Irish society and that is why it is
so important that we try to give back to them with
these funds. I have no doubt that all the groups
involved will greatly welcome the allocation," she
added. |
