INISHOWEN students
leaving home to go to college will have access to
cheaper rents around the country for the first time
in many years, a new report shows.
The Daft.ie report published yesterday shows that
the fall in property sales has led to more premises
becoming available to rent.
Government spokesperson for education in the Seanad,
Senator Cecilia Keaveney welcomed the rent price
drop.
"The report indicates a 3%-6% drop in cost of rents.
This is very important and good news for students
who traditionally have had difficulty getting
affordable accommodation," said Senator Keaveney.
"It is not just that rents are lower this year but
also there are more properties available. This
ensures that the choice that will be there for our
students this year will be quite an improvement on
the more recent years."
Senator Keaveney also reminded homeowners they can
rent out a spare room and earn €10,000 before tax.
"The concept behind the scheme was not only to
produce more accommodation for students at a time
when it was in scarce supply but it can be either a
financial or social boost to our elderly homeowners,
in particular.
"Students vary in character and what they wish for
in their accommodation varies also. It seems clear
that the opportunities are better than ever this
year and I wish them well in choosing their
locations in these coming days and weeks," added
Senator Keaveney. |
