THE tragic death has
taken place in Australia of a young
Newtowncunningham man.
Twenty-five year old Rory McMenamin was killed in an
accident in Brisbane, where he was working at a tyre
fitting centre.
It is understood he was changing a tyre on a truck
when the vehicle collapsed on him. He died later in
hospital from his injuries. |
The young Celtic
supporter had qualified as an accountant at Dundee
and had been taking a year out. He had been in
Australia since Christmas.
His bebo page is testimony to his love of adventure
and visiting new places.
Writing earlier this year, he said he was enjoying
Brisbane but planned to travel to other places
around Australia. He didn't mind where he travelled
"...as long as I'm enjoyin it. Isn't that what life
is about?" he wrote. |

He also expressed his
desire to retire at the age of 45 or 50 and then
"travel the world to places I've always wanted to go
and have never been".
Jim Devenney, a friend of the McMenamin family told
Highland Radio yesterday that Newtown was devastated
by the loss.
Mr. Devenney said despite being a qualified
accountant Rory liked nothing better than helping
out in his father's garage and even continued to do
so when his father sold the business. The former
councillor said the 25-year old was good humoured
and always helpful. |
