SINN Féin's bid to get
more Inishowen councillors elected to Donegal County
Council and Buncrana Town Council kicks off on
Sunday.
The party will hold its convention that day to
select who will run for the Inishowen Electoral Area
of the county council and the peninsula's only town
council. It has already revealed that Carndonagh
publican Sean Ruddy will be among the candidates.
Inis Eoghain Sinn Féin chairperson, Tony Doherty
said the members were entering the campaign "with
confidence".
“Last year, over 4,500 voters across Inishowen gave
our candidate, Pádraig MacLochlainn their first
preference support. It is clear that we have a real
opportunity to elect a second county councillor with
that level of support," he said.
“Since that superb result, we have delivered a
constituency office to support the people of
Inishowen, now open over a year. Our two councillors
Daren Lalor and Pádraig MacLochlainn have reported
an extremely busy year and our members across
Inishowen have maintained the office through their
fundraising efforts." He said the local members had
"worked hand in hand" with the elected
representatives to deliver for their communities and
campaign on a wide range of issues.
“As soon as the convention ends on Sunday, our
election campaign begins. We are determined to elect
more Sinn Féin representatives onto Donegal County
Council and Buncrana Town Council next year," added
Mr. Doherty. The selection convention will be held
in Simpson's function room, Tul na Ri, Carndonagh,
at 5pm. |
