GARDAI are
investigating the shooting of a 26 year old man in
St Johnston last night. The incident happened at
Transallagh, St Johnston around 9.20pm.
The man, believed to be from the Derry area, was
driving to his house in a car accompanied by his
partner who is in her 20s, when he was confronted by
a group of masked men.
"A number of masked men, possibly up to four,
approached the car and fired at least one shot
through the window of the car, injuring the man in
the neck," said a Garda spokesperson. It is
understood the victim managed to drive off and seek
help at a neighbour's house.
He was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital where
he underwent surgery. His injuries are described as
serious but stable. His girlfriend, who had jumped
out of the couple's vehicle, was bundled into a
large blue van by the masked men but later dumped
out around one or two kilometres from the scene of
the shooting.
The area remains sealed off this morning pending a
technical examination by Garda crime scene examiners
and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any
information is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda
station on 074 9167100. |
