Inishowen in grip of winter storm 01.02.08

INISHOWEN is in the grip of its second winter storm with gale force winds and freezing temperatures.
High seas and 100k/ph gusts forced the cancellation of Foyle ferry sailings yesterday while local fishing trawlers remained in the safety of the harbour.
The severe weather meant the postponement of the 'CCS Has Got Talent' show at Carndonagh Community School last night. Meanwhile, Donegal VEC Adult Education Centre in Buncrana was closed and staff and students sent home after strong winds off the Swilly sent roof tiles flying from the old building. The Foyle Ferry Company was forced to cancel sailings due to high winds and rough seas.
A weather warning from Met Éireann remains in place, with the cold snap forecast to continue affecting the region for much of the weekend.
Wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow are expected at times, with the North West and many other parts of Ulster in line for snow. It will feel particularly bitter due to the wind chill factor, high winds and plummeting temperatures.
Motorists were advised yesterday to travel only if strictly necessary while AA Roadwatch advised drivers to watch out for fallen debris on the roads due to strong gusts of wind. To view more photos click here .
