TOPPING up your tan on
a sunbed is to be curtailed in a major clampdown by
the Health Minister Mary Harney.
Ms. Harney is to introduce laws controlling the use
of sunbeds that may prohibit their use among young
teens and could prevent people from buying or
renting sunbeds for home tanning sessions.
The Department of Health and Children has launched a
public consultation process relating to the
proposals.
Members of the public and interested parties are
being invited to submit their views on the following
matters: |
- Prohibiting the
use of sun beds by those under 18
- Controls on
sale and/rental
-
Supervision/lack of supervision in tanning
salons
- Warning labels
on sunbeds and premises
- Exemptions for
medical use
- Inspections to
ensure compliance
- Registration
with competent authority
|
Notices of the
consultation process will be placed in the National
Press on Friday, May 2, inviting the public and
interested parties to submit their views to the
Department of Health and Children by 5.30 pm on
Friday, June 13, 2008. |
