INISHOWEN people who
need to register their cars could be forced to
travel as far as Donegal Town under plans to close
the Vehicle Registration Office at Lifford.
The Revenue Commissioners yesterday confirmed that
plans to shut the Lifford office were currently
under discussion.
It is not certain whether the vehicle registration
function will be transferred to Donegal Town or
Letterkenny. A Revenue spokesperson said while talks
were continuing, no closure date had been set
although it was likely to take effect before the end
of this year. She could not comment on why the
office was being closed or what would happen to the
building. It's understood the Revenue invested
around €20,000 within the last two years on new
kitchen facilities for staff. Around eight people
are currently employed at the Lifford office and
it's uncertain where they will be expected to move
under the relocation plans. |
